Togetherness
Connecting to the Community
Compassionate Confections | Marrow for Tomorrow
Total Synapse is a corporation founded by NYU students who want to make an impact on their community. Our education has helped us understand the importance of helping others and gave us the tools we need to make effective changes in our society. Our business focuses on connecting people, primarily through the power of the Internet. As part of our development to grow and be a part of our community, both as a corporation and as individuals, we wish to connect people in need to the materials that we as privileged college students have had the opportunity to enjoy.
Charitable work is important to us. It is a great way to form real connections with our community. It's through this kind of connection that we learn how important togetherness is for humanity as a whole.
Compassionate Confections
This program strives to provide commercially available sweets and baked goods to the thousands of children struggling in homeless shelters daily. Every night, bakeries around New York City throw out full bags of food under New York food laws mandating freshness and quality issues. Rather than letting the surplus food go to waste, we deliver it to homeless shelters in New York City in the hopes that it will put a smile on some of the thousands of faces enduring troubled times.
The homeless population in New York City is at an all-time high according to The New York Department of Homelessness. Recently released statistics state that around 39,000 homeless people check into New York City shelters every evening. The 10,000 families sleeping in shelters each night includes 16,500 children. This number has been steadily increasing (in thousands) from the last several years. In fact, according to the Coalition for the Homeless, 2009 has turned out to be "the worst on record for New York City homelessness since the Great Depression."

Marrow for Tomorrow
We are a proud sponsor of Marrow for Tomorrow at NYU.
This organization seeks to find compatible bone-marrow donors for patients with lieukemia and other blood-based disorders.
As stated on the Marrow for Tomorrow website:
Marrow for Tomorrow is a medical student-initiated project which seeks to partner with area communities to increase their representation in national marrow donation registries. Our singular goal is to help decrease the number of cancer patients who die because they cannot find their bone marrow “match” for a life-saving transplant. By working with underrepresented communities to genetically screen potential donors, we hope to make easier the struggle to find a life-saving match for cancer-stricken patients.Marrow for Tomorrow is the NYU branch of DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center. Total Synapse provides Internet marketing services free of charge to help draw more potential donors to Marrow for Tomorrow and increase awareness around the NYU community. In addition, Total Synapse staff regularly volunteer at drives and other Marrow for Tomorrow events.
